My AP 3d Portfolio—2024
How can I explore the emotional connotations behind exaggerated facial features through texture, rounded forms, and color?
Human emotion is a subjective experience, and by stretching and playing with different textures I can create organic feelings. Aging adds texture, while youth strips it. The addition of bulbous features, prominent noses, and sharp facial structure portray serious or stoic emotions. By altering eye distance, shape, and size the softness of the sculpture is impacted. Adding features to rounded forms forces the addition and subtraction of features to produce the emotions.

As my portfolio progresses, I experimented with different ways to produce emotions. Focusing on color, I created my own clear glaze for works 5/6, 7, 8/9, and 14/15 to preserve the vibrancy of the underglaze used. The texture present in work 7, 10, 12, and 15 amplifies the features within the figures. Work 11 includes the addition of fiber to make the face appears more organic. In work 7 and 10 I explored rough skin texture. The neck on work 13 elevates the face to focus on the tilt of the head. Work 14 and 7 were dropped on the floor to force the droopiness.
